HOW TO REGISTER YOUTH GROUPS AND CHAMAAS IN KENYA

The following are easy to follow procedures and requirements on the registration of chamaas and youth groups.

Common mission and vision for group.

Ensure that all the members in the group share a common goal and business interest. This is the main reason why you are forming the group in the first place.

Membership

         i.            Registration is usually for ten members so ensure that you are ten members.

       ii.            70% should be in the youth bracket. I.e. 18 yrs – 35 yrs.

Laws

         i.            The group must have a set of by-laws or a constitution governing the running of the group, its membership and showing its officials

Procedure

       ii.            Write minutes appointing the officials and the intention of the group to be registered and the registration name.

      iii.            Visit the nearest DC's Office, you will find the youth Office there.

    iv.            You should have a group constitution and a dully signed membership list.

      v.            Pay the registration fee and acquire the membership cards.

    vi.            Certificate will be ready in 2 weeks.

   vii.            Every registered group must furnish the registrar with the annual returns at a prescribed fee. Failure to file returns is an offence and a group that fails to do the same can be de registered.

 viii.            Any change in group officials or office titles should be notified to the registrar within 14 days of notice and signed with three officials.

     ix.             A group planning to amend its constitution must obtain permission from the registrar. This too must be signed by three officials, the chairperson, secretary and treasurer.

      x.            Registered groups are required to hold an annual general meeting once a year and all members must be invited.

     xi.            Apart from the annual returns, a group is required to pay some fee from time to time. These include change of postal address, change of officials, certified copy of a certificate, application for constitution amendment, application for dissolution of group, application for confirmation letters of group officials and name search.
